Hi all,

Just posted my application for my driving licence with the postal order yesterday and as per the special delivery they received it this morning.
I'm HRO so fingers crossed process won't take to long lol. My ban is up 18th October 2021 so hopefully gives them plenty of time to sort out.

I'll be posting more on the progress on here to give others an idea of any issues I may face during this and time spans.
I'm not worried about the CDT test as I don't drink anymore but my only concerned is the contacting GP part if they do reach out to them as I don't have an email for them only postal address and worried this may delay the process reading by the posts on here where half the delay is DVLA stating they never received GP filled questionnaire..

Anyway wish me luck guys and I'll keep you all posted on progress 🙂

Thanks shall do. I requested a D1 form in preparation and they sent it a few weeks back and when I came back from the post office after sending it off yesterday I saw DVLA had sent me there D27 form. And they sent it a week into my 90 days that I can apply lol so seems they on the ball and I'm hoping this is a good omen to come.
 
Please keep us updated! I can send off for mine on September 1st as my ban ends in December. Good luck! I am also HRO

You and I are at exactly the same stage. My ban is up on the 11th October and I mailed my application on the 15th the July. I used a D1 form I got from the Post Office and a DR1 form I downloaded.

Then on the 27th July I received a a DR27 form from the DVLA (a few days later than the 90 days,) but there was no DR1 form with it and it said if you have already sent in an application then you can ignore it.

I suppose that now it is just a waiting game until they contact me with a date and location for the medical..

I posted this earlier for forum users info so have no concerns about the CDT test.

Indeed seems we are in the same boat. Be interesting to see if we are processed round enough the same time span I.e. time to receive notification to book medical etc.... I also had a medicheck cdt test and i took it 4 weeks after stopping drinking and it was 0.5 and I was the type of person who used to binge drink on the weekends so I kinda know now what period of abstinence I need to have not that it matters anyway as I stopped drinking for a while now as my priority is to get my licence back and never to be in this awful situation again. Got so used to catching ubers that anytime I'm going out for drinks I'm going to leave my keys at home from thus point onwards or get the wife to pick me up lol

I bought an eBike and unless taken by friends or family or on the train, haven't travelled out with my home town for 24 months. I'mnot sure if the time has flown in or if I'm just happy to be nearing the end of the process.

The only issue I have once I get my licence back is that my no insurance claims bonus will be 2 years old on the 28th August and I won't be able to buy and insure a car until sometime in October at the earliest, so it looks like 14 years No Claims will simply disappear unless I can find an insurer willing to accept it after 2 years.

I'm also keeping a timeline of when things happen.

Totally feel your pain when it comes to the NCB. As my ban was for 3 years I'm going to lose my 6 years No claims cos from what I've been reading it only lasts for 2 years. Whatever the cheapest quote I get from compare the market I'm just gonna have to grin and bear it

I lost my no claims last year because of delays etc., to be honest my renewal quote through 1st Central with zero no claims was around £550 when previously my quote with full no claims and no drink drive conviction was around £350 so not too bad!

In my experience, using the 'specialist' drink driving insurers costs a shed load more, in fact my comparative quotes last year were well over £1,500 with the specialists. As long as you are up front on the price comparison sites, I'm sure the prices you get will be competitive.

What kind of car did you buy?

I used to drive a Honda CR-V which I gave to my son, partly to compensate him for all the stress I put him through and partly because I didn't want an uninsured car sitting on my driveway for nearly 3 years with neighbours asking me why I'm not driving it. (I was lucky my cases did not hit the local press.)

I don't know whether to go for a slightly dearer 2nd hand car or a cheaper new car. I think the value of the car also has a big impact on your insurance premium and I'll only be travelling around 6,000 per year, even less if I continue to use my eBike.

I am lucky I have gotten out of this whole alcohol mess relatively financially intact, so can afford something a bit better than basic.

Totally agree with you. I don't bother with the specialist drink driving insurers as I've found it they are way way more expensive then what I've been quoted on the comparison sites.

I kept my car. Misses was driving it for a while then she bought her own. I've got an audi a4 convertible and I just had it for a year and I decided against selling it when I got banned as I just had a new clutch and flywheel put on as well as a service and as it was low mileage I knew I wasn't going to find another one in the mint condition as my one. First ban I had in 2013 I sold my BMW and regretted it after as the ban was only for a year so I decided I'm not going to sell my audi and just had it on my drive. Luckily with all the covid restrictions I've been working from home to date so didn't have to worry about the neighbours wondering why the car been sat for so long lol

@Luna2000 you mentioned DR1 form. When I sent my application the other day it was the D1 form. Even when DVLA had sent me their own D27 form there was no medical questionnaire with it. Am I missing something? Should I have downloaded and sent the medical questionnaire along with application? Just don't want to have any unnecessary delays.

I don't know if the DVLA have changed how the DR1 form is completed. In the past it was your responsibility to send that to them along with a D1 form. When I too received the D27 form there was no mention of a DR1 form only that I would need to have a medical.

It may now be that they are content with the Doctor examining you to complete and send the DR1 form to them. I was surprised when I went for my first medical that the Doctor had a blank DR1 form and was basically completing the same sections I had already completed. That was a bit worrying as I hadn't kept a copy and hoped I would provide the same answers.

One thing I did notice though was the the Doctor was happy to write additional detail on the form about medication etc., something I was reluctant to do in case it would be considered 'spoiled.'

OK thanks for the reply. I suppose once they write back to me or email me they will advise in regards to the medical form that needs to be filled out and request my doctors details to send it to them. Just a waiting game for now.

The DR1 is completed by you, or by the DVLA doctor with you there at the medical.
