There is absolutely no requirement to do the DD reduction course. Some people chose not to do it for varying reasons, one may be financially as it was around £200-£300 to do it when I did mine in 2019 (I can’t recall the specific fee). One thing I will say is don’t be shamed about doing it. You can always do it in another town away from where you live and all the people who take part in the course you will never see again once the course is completed, so I wouldn’t dwell on the shame aspect too much.

Thanks very much for this. I've decided not to do it, prompted also by the time commitment which I simply don't have! Plus I'm managing fine so probably won't actually bother getting my license back

There are lots of people Don who lose their licence and adapt to not needing it again. Good luck anyway.

Mine was actually quite good fun. Even the suggestion by one of the 'students' we should all head off to the pub after the class was greeted with some wry smiles.

I did my course through Moorgate in jun 2023 and it was all online 3 x full day sessions so people were from all over the country I’m not sure if they are the only company that do it all online though

I was told recently you couldn't do it online at all now? And a friend of mine was told she'd have to do hers with the provider recommended by the court, who didn't offer online courses which she'd prefer as she has severe anxiety.

Oh really that’s a shame yes that’s right the court told me it would be with Moorgate and when I contacted the company they already had all the paperwork and I booked it, online was the only option I had maybe they have changed it with them too now. I did find online a lot easier to be honest I was very nervous the first day but being in the comfort of my own home did make it so much easier

I’m not sure if it would help but I’ve added the link to the course provider I had to use they still advertise on their website online courses are available I know you said you may not apply for your licence back and I’m not sure if you can use them but just in case it may help

That's really kind. Thank you.

Are you referring to the drink driving course here or your CDT medical? Forgive my ignorance - is Buckfast a spirit? I’ve never heard of it.

CJ
Buckfast is a tonic wine and it's the medical a did and had that drink 16 days before medical

I recently completed mine online with TTC. There were people on it from all over the UK. Some of the participants were fun.

Could have done without 90mins in the training talking through what happens when you're arrested and then in court. We'd all been through that bit.

I feel more informed now about what actually constitutes over the limit. It's scary to think how many times I'd already driven over the limit before I was caught. And how often my friends do. Like most of the population, I thought 2 drinks were ok. I now know how wrong I was.

A pint of 5% lager can put you borderline if you have a swift one then get behind the wheel. 2 x pints or 2 x glasses of wine will definitely push you over the limit if you drive within the hour.

I really admire people who can be fun in such situations! I was too embarrassed to even think about signing up!

I had to make it fun. Only way to endure the hours. And I'm a glass half full type of person. Had to make the best of a bad situation.

The giggles started off as a joke in a break out room. Which then got shared with the rest of the course. Which then got repeatedly referred to over the rest of the training. Other people started lightening up as a result.

If you're not able to do it due to the time/financial commitment, then that's understandable. If possible, try not let embarrassment stop you.

Thanks! I've a feeling I'd be the oldest person there - should know better etc! And yeah, time is an issue. At my age I drop off in any spare time!!

At my drink driving course - the eldest participant was in his 70s. He was quite candid about his conviction for drink driving and said he been collared on the way home from the Legion where he’d been playing dominoes!!!! He was quite averse to his pints of mild and drops of rum.

Just to add the opposite end of the spectrum - a lad on my DDRS course this week was 18, and had passed his test just 5 weeks before!

Imagine getting your driving licence then losing it for a year within weeks. He himself says he feels like a prat. I bet his mates are rinsing him for it.

It can happen at any age. What matters is how you move on from it :)
