Hi, just come off my dr10 ban - Got You Covered seems to be a joke. I am now unsure where I can get my insurance for my car... it needs to be ASAP. What can be done about this please..?

I have brought the car, I have tried most of the specialist insurance brokers and they haven't got back to me.

Need help ASAP

Hi Sc1997

Do an internet search, I used Meerkat, you’ll be surprised how competitive the quotes are, and certainly far better than supposed specialist insurance brokers. The information you enter is exactly the same as specialist insurers receive, so you can feel assured that the quotes you receive are all perfectly legitimate.

Good luck, you’ll be pleased you looked around. Unfortunately we tend to feel so guilty about what happened that we find it difficult to believe that we do have options that aren’t punitive.

Kind regards

Jane

The issue is I went through meerkat that only quotes I was getting was 800 per month and then got you covered for 200 a month so I contacted them after getting the quote and found out they are a broker which much bigger prices... I'm struggling

What Insurance company did you use

Hi, it’s a couple of years ago now, once my ban was up, so I don’t remember for sure, I was just grateful to have a reasonable premium.
As has been the case for most of us, insurance premiums have increased massively in the last year or so whether it be for motor, household insurance etc. Always worth contesting as it’s a grossly inflated industry, and the more it's contested the more likely companies are to counter with a more realistic quote.

I have no experience of being offered a monthly premium? Is this something new? £800 a month is not sustainable.

Let us know how you get on

Kind regards

Jane

Thanks Jane, no idea - I put a quote through and it's giving me £800 a month on go compare and meerkat. I don't know what to do... just worried

Have you gone back to your original insurer? I went back to Admiral after my HRO DR10 and they were really nice about it. They reinstated 4 years of my 10+ NCD even though 3 years had passed, and my quote was barely more than I was paying before. Maybe things have changed, as this was 2 years ago, but worth a go ?

I had a 9 month ban after doing the course. I have 9 years driving experience and 7 years NCB, my insurance is coming back at £260 a month on my car that I owned before I was banned (330d). It may be the car you’re trying to quote on, what car is it?

I put in a quote on a 1.0 VW Polo to check and it’s coming back at £115 a month so it’s the car that is the issue for me. Even a 1.6TDI Golf is returning over £200 a month. Couldn’t imagine what these quotes would be like with no NCB and only driving a year, I assume they would be the same as yours.
