Hi. My husband stupidly got in my car on Friday night to drive half a mile from the pub. It was absolutely ridiculous and I’m furious. Of course he crashed the car into my neighbour’s car causing damage and mine is a mess. We’re with admiral who have a drink / drug exclusion clause. Will admiral hold me responsible for this? It’s my car and I feel it’s really unfair for me personally to be out of pocket here when I haven’t done anything. He will be punished through the courts and that’s totally appropriate, but I’m worried about the costs of the repairs to mine and the third party’s car. Thank you.

Irrelevant of the covering policy it will be unlikely to be honoured given the presence of alcohol. Alcohol is a common exclusion clause irrelevant of who is driving and who is the policy holder. Unfortunately, either you or your husband will have to meet the financial liability.
