 How long until commercial driving allowed?
I had an eighteen month ban (in 2007) so I'm driving on a private licence. But I cannot be commercially employed for some years. Can anyone post the periods for this restriction? Thanks in advance.
Guy.

PS I'm not an HGV or special licence holder. It would be just white vans etc..

As far as I am aware there is no government legislation in place to restrict you from being employed as a driver due to your past conviction. Although most employers will not even think about employing you as a driver due to insurance costs as a result of your past conviction, at least for 5 years.

A drink driving conviction will affect your (your employers) insurance premiums/cost for at least 5 years, however an endorsement on your dirivng licence for driving with excess alcohol will remain for 11 years. You will stand a better chance of gaining employment as a driver after 5 years have passed and insurance premiums become cheaper. However the endorsement on your driving licence will still raise a red flag as far as potential employers are concerned.

A drink driving conviction is only going to make it that much more difficult to secure gainful employment as a driver in any capacity.

Thanks, Moderator Taylor. The mists are parted.
Funny, how these ideas persist isn't it?

I can tell you that employment agencies will give you the cold shoulder if you've a recent conviction.

Good luck!
