Full of regret and anxious.

Convicted Driver Insurance
Im in the same boat,

got caught 3 weeks ago, awaiting for some correspondence but the wait was killing me
So much that I contacted CPS they had no info on me and tried calling the police officer but never got to speak with him.

I have accepted that I will be banned and get a fine, so less anxious now.

I do worry about being in the press as we a part of a religious / culture community and my family will struggle within the community and it will cause frictions,

I just pray my blood test goes missing
And charges are dropped 🙄🤞🏼

If your community is ultra religious then there are many passages in the bible about forgiveness that I am sure you can quote anyone that gives you a hard time.

The parable of the woman being stoned who was saved by Jesus basically saying, okay, if you have never sinned go ahead, otherwise walk away, is a good one to start with.

Mind you, I also recall the old joke where he looks up and says , "Mother, put that stone down."

Sorry, a bit of levity never hurt.

Aaah sis we are exactly the same. When’s your court date?

I sympathise with you, I really do. I have been banned twice since 2016 with my current (and hopefully,) last ban expiring on 11 October this year.

My readings were 124 and 96.

I was not sentenced to take an extended test at the end of either of my bans, so I think that is unlikely. The extended test is normally reserved for anyone involved in a serious RTA where other people or property are injured.

Make sure that you lawyer requests the Drink Driver Awareness course before your sentencing as it cannot be applied retrospectively. This will take 25% off you ban. E.g. 20 months will be 15 months on completion.

Regarding the newspapers I am afraid their is nothing you can do about whether your case is reported or not. I did not crash or injure anyone else, but given my readings I was incredibly lucky that neither of my two cases were reported in the local newspaper. All you can do I am afraid is hope.

You should console yourself with the fact that up to 100,000 drivers every year are convicted of a DUI, so you are most definitely not alone.

If you work in Social Care and are professionally qualified then you will need to report this to your governing body (and obviously to your employer.)

Hopefully everything turns out for the best.
Hoping I’m out the local news! but yeah thankyou for that, just one of those things were the guilt starts eating you up slowly. This feels like the worse punishment and the ban hasn’t even started yet! You’ll be back on roads soon, just smash it out and take it as a lesson well learnt.

Can I just say online and the duty solicitor said to me as my work doesn’t involve ‘driving’ I’m not legally obliged to notify my employer but it’s just ‘best’ to do so when the DBS checks run through?
So if not something I have to do, can’t I just leave it until the DBS check and then speak up? Right now it will be way too much for me to speak up about it. Then again comes back to the local news urgh :/

You will have to check to see what your contract says about convictions.
It is wrong to say that drink driving doesn’t matter for DBS of you do not have to drive for work so do not tell your employer.
For example nurses and teachers do not have to drive for work, but they have to notify their respective governing council who oversee standards if they are done for drink driving. I am sure there are many more jobs with the same requirement.

That’s fine.

Not received anything yet
Hi Emily.
Basically after speaking to someone on the phone earlier today from national legal service site. They said if you speak to your solicitor and explain if the local news gets out how it was impact your safeguarding etc they maybe be able to put a word in but it only depends on the severity of the case and what the charges are.
Hope this helps us both in some ways

Thank for the tip🤞🏼

let me know how you get on

Hi all,
I was in court today and thought I would let those who have followed this thread of my outcome.
I didn’t have anyone to represent me or speak for me therefore I did it all myself which I started of doing very anxiously but as it went on, my nerves started settling.
I won’t bore you with what happened with it all but bottom line is,the worry I had with retaking my test as I still was on my two year probation of driving didn’t turn out the way I assumed. Luckily I will just have to ask DVLA for my license once the ban is over. I don’t know how to go by that but I will look into that closer to the time.
My breathalyser result was 61 therefore I got a 18 months ban but hopefully I can get reduced by 25% with the course. I also got a total of over £340+ fine to pay and then it will be another £200+ for this course. However this is where I get confused, the court asked me if I knew anything about the course and I said yeah but then they said the course I mentioned may not be a ‘court ordered one’ so they mentioned one called Drink drive north? I’m just hoping when the letter in the post comes regarding my fine I hopefully also get a letter regarding this course.
I was just really hesitant at the time if I’m honest and wanted to get out. Anyways for the next year and abit I will need to adjust with life without a car and pray I start to slowly forgive myself and move forward.

Just finished the same length ban, it would be trite to say it flies by, but it will go way faster than you might think. one thing though, I'd definitely chase up the DD course, its usually over 3 days and each session cuts your ban by over a month, plus its actually, not fun exactly, but very informative and its good to meet people in a similar situation.

Aw bet your happy it’s all over! Can get back to normality. Yeah so I’m definitely going to have to do this. Did you chance this up or did you get a letter for this course? It was mentioned in court but that’s about it don’t know what happens next 🤦🏻‍♀️

The Court order that you get formalising the details of your sentence should make reference to it . There will be a nominated provider for your area and you ring them to book on . The Court should send them details of your sentence and when they have this they will book you on . This is what happened in my case at least .

it's amazing to be back behind the wheel and i was pleasantly surprised that although I drive a performance car the insurance only went up about £300. The course guys recommended a very good broker who specialise in DR10s and were very impressive. The court usher was the guy that pointed me at the course suppliers, he, again was brilliant. I think you will find a lot of people will be very understanding, mostly it seems going on the premise of 'glass houses'. Good luck!

Right okay, so do I find the provider in my area or am I waiting on a letter from the court?

There will be more than one provider in your area, The norm is that the provider that you nominated in court (or they told you about..... but they should ask which you prefer) should contact you within 14 days.
If that does not happen, and you do not know the prover involved then you will have to contact the court to ask them which provider is involved in your case.
