Existing points on licence

Hello

Does anyone know what happens to existing points that you have on your licence before your drink driving conviction? Are they 'frozen' in time while you are disqualified or do they run their normal course during the period of disqualification?

They just run their normal course. DD doesn't attract points and, if your current points run out before your licence is reinstated, you will have a point free licence on return!

Thank you so much. It does say they have expired on the DVLA website but I wanted to make sure!

Hi @Jbowgled, Any previous points or convictions will continue on as normal and would not be frozen during a drink drive ban. The date of your points/conviction will remain the same, so the time they remain on your licence and have to be declared will stay the same also. (Most points for insurance quotes need to be declared within 5 years from conviction date, but always check with insurer/broker when getting a quote) Hope this helps! (y)
