Hi, got my letter through advising me a kit will arrive in the next few days. Whats in this kit? Also, what do they do to check eyes/vision in the medical? Mine's in Manchester at a doctors who specialise in doing medicals on pilots so guess they will have the kit to do whatever they want to do... Just a bit weirded out by people near my eyes

Hi there,
I had my medical a couple of weeks ago, I didn't have an eye test at all he just looked into my eyes and had me stare at a picture on the wall, that was it, no urine test, he said that would only be relevant if the DVLA were worried about drugs.. checked my reflexes, did my BP, weight, height, felt around my liver and stomach area and took blood at the end and asked a zillion questions on the questionnaire! The hardest question for me to answer was the last date I drank, how much did I drink and he wanted the time I finished drinking??...appreciating it was months before that was hard to answer...I think the kit just has the blood vial, letter from DVLA, form, blood sample folder perhaps etc etc, the doc did say the form has changed recently..

I was in there half an hour. Nice doctor, now the wait.

Good luck,

Cheers Moodle, much appreciated.

Was that in Manchester?

Good luck with your results mate

Hiya, no I am in the south but I would imagine the kit is the same wherever it is sent to? I expect different doctors work in different ways but certainly, for me, this was how it was...

Best of luck to you...

I have recently had the medical. There is no eye test, the kit is the forms and blood test tube. You will be asked many, many questions about alcohol, given a very brief physical examination to test reflexes, signs of enlarged liver and neurological damage. The neuro damage tests are along the lines of walking a straight line and touching your nose. The most bizarre question was "did I have any scars". Well yes, a couple of ops, a couple of accidents as a kid. Main thing they seem to be looking for is alcohol abuse. If there is evidence of that within last 6 months or evidence of alcohol dependency within last 12 months forget it. You will not get your licence back. Good Luck

This is interesting as it shows how different doctors can be as I did not have to walk in a straight line or touch my nose etc and I wasn't asked about scars either! How strange!
Best of luck Susan, I wonder what their turnaround is like now for these medicals.
