Unlike a totting up ban, individual circumstances aren't taken into account, and it is a legal requirement to impose a ban in found guilty, although accepting a course will reduce the ban by 25%.
One positive thing is that your reading does not make you a High Risk Offender, which would open up a world of pain trying to get your licence back after the end of the ban.
Insurance may not necessarily be higher after the ban is up, and the offence is considered spent after 5 years.
