You will feel shitty and nervous until the court case, but once that's out the way and really there's nothing to worry about at court its just running through the motions you get your ban and fine then its a big relief and you make adjustments to your life and before you know it a month is 6 months 6 months is a year next thing you know your applying for your license back thats how it went for me anyway good luck and try not to worry. ✌
Thank you. I appreciate that. Yep, time to just get my big girl pants on :) . I’ve spoken to work and they’ve been good, I know they have to do what they have to do but it helped put things into perspective.

You will get through it and your situation may well be citable as mitigation in court . A ban is inevitable as you’ve picked up , but the course will reduce it and no, it’s not forever . You have been having a dreadful time but the circumstances of many of us at the time of arrest was horrendous, so everyone understands. You will pick your way through it .
Thanks Polly3

Hi Patty, as others have said, unfortunately a ban is likely, but I think I read somewhere of a similar story to yours and the magistrate took pity on the driver and didn't ban them. This might well be worth checking with a specialist solicitor. Just make sure u find one with genuine positive reviews as there are a lot out there just keen on making a dent in your bank balance. Very best of luck, sounds a pretty horrific experience.

Because some people have nothing better to do sad really 😕
I stand firm that your response could have been worded less firm..

You have no idea how DD can affect some people. It could lead to someone taking their own life.

We know each case is different and yes you stated bluntly course of action. I’m just saying it could have been said a little more empathetically and ‘tactfully’.

Hi James, thank you for your reply. I’ve got three solicitors to follow up tomorrow with good reviews. I think I may read their reviews over again before bed so that I know which one to call first. I definitely need a good one, if only to try and reduce the 18 months 🤞🏻 It’ll all come out in the wash as they say.

Thanks again

I'm sorry for your situation, Patty. Unfortunately, as others have said, a ban is inevitable. The only chance of avoiding one is if the procedures regarding your arrest weren't followed correctly. Unlike a totting up ban, individual circumstances aren't taken into account, and it is a legal requirement to impose a ban in found guilty, although accepting a course will reduce the ban by 25%.

One positive thing is that your reading does not make you a High Risk Offender, which would open up a world of pain trying to get your licence back after the end of the ban.

Insurance may not necessarily be higher after the ban is up, and the offence is considered spent after 5 years.

Thinking of you Patty1- I'm currently just over one month into my 12 month ban.

Only piece of advice I can offer at this stage is that its been an opportunity for reflection for me- I've tried to glean the positive of what I can from this experience, as distressing and shameful as it has been.

I hope that things go as well as can be expected, and if you need or want additional advice or support - you know where to come.

This forum has been of huge importance to me since everything has unfolded- I hope you find the same comfort from it that I have.

Hi, thank you for your response. This week seems to have flown by, the anxiety and head pressure has been immense. Please tell me it gets better!?

I’ve spoken to my solicitor, who’s hopeful for around 13month ban. Which I’m ready for now.

Whether I am able to keep my job is going to be the hardest thing as I won’t find out until after the hearing.

All deserved though.

Hi. I spoke to my solicitor yesterday, and looks like I’m in for at least a 13 month ban. I’ve gotten used to the fact that I’m going to be banned now.

That’s interesting about the insurance. Thankfully mine is pretty low at the moment so when it does triple or more it’ll be like going back 20 years in time to when I first had insurance!

So glad it’s only 5 years. Seems like a long time but honestly when I look back over my life, it really isn’t that long at all.

Thanks for your reply. I do take comfort from them.

Hi, so just a little update. I got 19mojth van with a 19 week reduction with a driving course. So approx 14.5 months. The fine in total was around £650

Hopefully it’ll fly by but certainly never ever will I do anything so stupid again in my life.

Hope you’re all well
