Car Insurance invalid while banned

Convicted Driver Insurance

I've been banned from driving and have been told that my car insurance is invalid, apparently you can't have car insurance if you haven't got a licence. So my car is not insured for fire or theft, I wouldn't be covered if it was stolen. This seems extraordinary. Also, I think that if it was on a public highway I could possibly be committing an offence by not having it insured. Have other people come across this problem? And if not, why not?

Would appreciate your thoughts/advice. Thanks

I had my ex-wife on my insurance as a named driver, and the insurance company changed the policy so that she is now on it as the main driver. The policy is still in my name but I'm listed on it as an excluded driver.
