As long as you don't have any new medical conditions, or any changes in any current medical conditions, you can drive under Section 88. If your GP hasn't said you can't drive, and you feel as if you are safe to drive, you can.
The important thing is that you've started the renewal paperwork and there are no changes in your circumstance.
