I was banned from driving in Aug 2024. It was my second offence in 9.5 years [The court brought up a third offence, but thsi predated the current offence by 28 years]. I was given a 46 month ban based on a reading of 88ug breath.
I am coming up to the 2 year mark and am going to apply for the reinstatement of my licence. I have parents aged 92 and 93 and their health is worsening and I am really struggling to be able to look after them and work, given I livce over 100 miles away. If it is possible to avoid involving them I would aim to do so, they don't know and with all of their problems I really don't want to add to them.
Since the incident I have not touched alcohol and I am resolute that I will not return to doing so either. I didn't seek any medical assistance for giving up alcohol and am now worrying that not having done so means that there is no medical record of my having done so. I have sought help from mental health professionals to address what surfaced after stopping alcohol. It sppears that alcohol was a masking technique. I am currently on a pathway for ADHD treatment. I am not seeking to try to excuse my actions, but am merely trying to show that I have sought help in order to effect real and lasting change.
I am trying to find out my best steps to make sure I have a solid case for my appeal and that I am doing and have done all that I can to show both a change in character and attitude and habits, but also anything else that I could do to assist the appeal.
I was given a community order of 56 hours, where I worked in a charity shop, after my hours were completed, I stayed on for a short while until I had secured a new job, so I will aks the manager to provide a character reference.
Ultimately, I have ceased alcohol use since the day of the offence with no reutrn at all. I have sought to address the underlying issues that could have played a part in my alcohol use in the past. I have elderly parents who rely on me for an increasing number of things, whcih I am finding more and more difficult to assist with.
Thanks
