Insurance after DR10

Convicted Driver Insurance
Hi I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

I’ve been looking at insurance tonight and imputed my conviction, date of ban, length ect and it asks if I’m still banned which I click yes and I am until the 22nd of next month but when I’m going to purchase it says can not continue please call us as your driving licence details are incorrect either because : length of licence is not correct, How long I’ve been driving is incorrect, or I’m missing my conviction. None of them are incorrect and all on the form?? I’ve checked numerous times. I checked the GOV website and it says licence valid from 22nd June 00.00 so is this maybe why?? But then surely that means I can’t insure my car if they are sticking with this. I’ve tried 6 different insurers now and each one is saying this. I have taken all their references down to call them tomorrow cause I don’t want to lose the prices. Anyone else had this or am I doing something wrong? Their also wanting me to have a black box put in (not the one I’ve chosen) which I find strange as it wasn’t speeding I was done for. Not getting one put in anyways. Any advice?

I'll be interested to know how this pans out for you @Campbell1411 as I am about to do the same thing (valid from 18 June).
I'm going to have a tinker with a few of the usual comparison sites myself over the next week or so, and will give A-Plan a try. If I manage to gather any useful info that might help I will certainly let you know.

I'm a year out of the ban - just reinsured my car. Last year when the ban ended I went with a Adrian Flux who were recommended by the drink drive course guys and, although I'd read some bad reviews about them on here was actually quite pleased with the quote.
Fast forward 1 year and I get the new quote from them and it had GONE UP! So hit comparethemarket.com, (dutifully avoided Admiral) and found a quote about half the renewal quote from AF. Took the new quote and cancelled AF. Next day I get an email from AF quoting well under half their original quote. Annoyingly I had to cancel the new one with a charge of £25 to go back to AF. I did ask why they didn't just send me the lower one and they kind of implied - they give it a go at the increased price and if you bail, then work pretty hard to keep you as a customer. Annoying, but their new quote was less than all the comparison sites came up with so I guess I can forgive them for trying to make money.

See this is what I mean, on the course I was given a bunch of insurance names and also I put in my details online and wont stop getting calls from call centers! but if I was to compare their quote to what the standard insurance companies quote it seems better for me to stick to an insurance I find on gocompare.I would of thought the course would help out ALOT with insurance but it seems as if the only pros to the course was the fact it decreases your ban.. oh and obviously to get educated!;)

Let us know please what the outcome was! urgh how annoying :/

Thanks for your replies everyone. Yeah it’s pretty annoying cause I understand it’s probably a trust thing with them that I’m not going to drive the car in that month possibly? But gonna call a few of them on Saturday and see what they say. I called a few that were mentioned on my course but they said they couldn’t insure me until exactly 30 days before my ban ended, then I was hounded by a few others so blocked them. Tbf my insurance isn’t overly high (double what I paid last September before my ban mind you) yearly it’s £630 & monthly £55 so that’s quite good I thought. For anyone wondering I drive a Audi A1 sports and I’ve had it over 3 years. Will certainly let you all know how I get on when I phone a few of them. Just wanted to note as well guys admiral have a large group of insurers now elephant being now one of them too. I personally have never had an issue with Admiral and was with them also when I was banned but just someone mentioned above admiral, just want it insured so my dad can get it MOT ect for me so as of the 23rd I’ll be on the road again not waiting in a garage looking at it 😂

Thank you this would be greatly appreciated and I will let you know if I find anything out also. How exciting not long for us both :)

Same car as me!😍 Wish mine was £55 month,Im lucky if I get anything under £300 a month!,My age, area and the fact I have been banned does not help:cautious:

If I passed in Dec 2019
Got a car Aug 2020
Banned in May 2021
and now when im trying to insure it says 'how long have you held a full license ' whats my answer??

Since the date you passed your test. The date should be on the back of your licence when you get it back. Think this is why my insurances are coming back mines is incorrect cause I’m still banned just now until June so technically I don’t hold a licence cause I’m still banned

Today I've managed to get mine insured starting 18 June.
It seems anything over 30 days before the start date is tricky especially online.

I tried A-plan, helpful but expensive.

So I clicked on the banner at the top of this forum, filled out the details and within an hour I had 3 insurers call me. One I didn't manage to speak to in the end. The other two almost identical in price.

The key to it is to actually speak to someone I think.

I eventually went with '1 Answer' and the guy I spoke to was superb, polite, helpful, very professional.

For some I know it may set the nerves jangling having to actually talk to someone and say that you've got a conviction but don't worry, these people do it for a living, they don't make it awkward, in fact it was a quite a pleasant conversation.

After my ban I my buildings and contents insurer cancelled my policy. Cancelled policies can go against you, but this lad at 1 Answer found a policy with Winns (I think) who didn't penalise against it. And whilst on the phone he went to great lengths to assure me that all the checks were done to be sure I am covered...I'm fact he off his own back went through it more than once. I can only say I was quite impressed.

I will say now I have an old car...'57 reg' but I ended up with a fully comp policy with all the bells and whistles for something around £100 more than I previously paid. I could maybe have done some more shopping around but I was happy with the quote.

So my advice...talk to someone and let a broker do a search rather than an algorithm. And wait until 29 days or less

Agreed, Adrian Flux called after I cancelled their ridulous quote of more than my first year off the ban and got it down to half that and less than the comparison sites could do. Some specialist insurers or there are bright enough to realise the vast majority of drink drivers are actually LESS likely to reoffend as we know how crap it is.. AF all but admitted the new quote was simply to see if they could make some easy money by me just paying up.

Thank you, I typed in details into the insurance on here too, I’ve just insured my car as of Monday for £52 a month through first central. Couldn’t do it online again so spoke with them and they were really helpful and ensured everything was accurate too. I’m under 30 days from Monday so that’s why I picked Monday to be insured from. Happy that it’s finally sorted. Definitely better speaking with someone that fighting with a computer lol. Thank you everyone for your replies! Now my dad can take it for it’s MOT (dreading that!!) and it will be ready to go for me.

Make sure when you do check that you delete the cookies from search history as I found the more I checked the higher it went? I recently just insured my car again (I’m 2 years since conviction) and I have a newer car, higher spec and my insurance went up to £1000 for the year. Gutted but love my new car 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️ really hope it starts going down again soon though. Let us know how you get on 🤞🏼
