Hi All

My insurance renewal is up and last time i went with a specialist company for my first year back after a DR30 ban, i also have a DR10 ban dated from 2012.

My renewal was £530.

I did a quote last night online out of curiosity with all the correct details and it came in ay £269!

I have just received a phone call of my previous insurer and they are insisting that i have to notify any insurer of all my bans, i explained it was spent, passed 5 years and they still stated it needs to be 'disclosed' even though it does not effect price?

I am aware that it stays on my license for 11 years but are my previous insurers correct here, they are adamant it needs to be disclosed and that the quote i had 'maybe' invalid as i have not disclosed it.....?

Can anyone clear this up for me please.

The company i used for my latest is -https://insure2drive.co.uk/

Thanks

Hi,
I believe as long as you complete the online form accurately and answer all the questions on the form honestly your insurance policy will be valid and you dont have to provide information that you havent been asked for? And once you have received the insurance documents read them carefully including the small print and make sure you understand every text on those documents and you will be fine.

That sounds very cheap for having a drink drive conviction.
You only have to declare convictions like drink driving for 5 years for insurance, despite it remaining on your licence for 11 years. (For sentencing purposes only) so they are wrong to tell you to declare a 2012 conviction. Presumably you got a 3 year ban, so unless your reading was very high, it sdoesnt take a genius at the new company to work out that you must have had a previous conviction when you were prosecuted last time.
You need to check the wording when you go to accept the new quote, it is one thing to offer a cheap quote on a comparison website to be high up the list, but sometimes when you click through it goes up after further ‘clarification’........

It's not a comparison site, i was referred it last year when i got back on the road and i saved the details and it was £686 last year.

Also it was a DR30/failing to provide specimen of sample, when completing online it still prompted me to select how a reading (breath/blood/Urine).
I selected breath and entered zero.

I think i will contact them via phone to make sure as the price seems low.

I will also search on here and do the normal comparison sites later.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion about the 2012 conviction, my current provider (One Answer Insurance/Underwriter-Sabre) seem to be very misleading tbh!
They were adamant that it had to be disclosed and that it would only effect a claim but could not effect the price quotation, their words!!

Cheers

I am starting to get a bit peeved with my current insurer, they basically lied to me regarding an old offence and now will not provide me with proof of my NCB.
I sent an email asking for proof/confirmation of my NCB and had this as a reply, is this normal?

'Your policy is still live and in force so we cannot send you No Claims Bonus proof. It is due to expire on 8th November so if you do not choose to renew your No Claims Bonus will be sent after 8th November.'

Thanks

That is fine, most insurers take your NCD as what you declare, and give you 14 days to provide proof afterwards.
In theory, you could cancel your policy now, and you only get your NCD for each complete year. If they gave it you now, then you cancelled, you would only be entitled to one year less than they quote today.
You would be crazy to cancel with only 3 weeks left, but that is why they only confirm the NCD at the end of the insurance year.

Hi bilabonic, Yes price1367 is correct the majority of insurers will accept what you declare as NCB and then will confirm this with the previous insurer once the policy has been cancelled, that is what we do as a company anyway. Definitely worth finishing the policy to get the extra years NCB too. Sounds like they have not been the most helpful which is a shame, so by all means give us a call and we can see if we can help make it easier for you (y)

I have just done a search with Confused.com, it asked whether i had any 'unspent convictions', i replied NO as five years have passed.
It then listed insures as norm, i selected the first/cheapest as it had legal cover as well, yet under convictions it stated i have no criminal convictions?
I presumed a drink drive or even failing to produce was a criminal conviction?
